When I was asked by Mark Reynolds at Bookansita – respository of all things literary – to write a piece about why I dedicated my novel Attend to ‘the original Deborah Wybrow’, I jumped at the chance of explaining how a real life figure from the early nineteenth century was the inspiration for my central character, who is still alive in the twenty-first. Via Freud, literary structuralism, creative writing workshops and the London and Greenwich Railway, I think arrive at an explanation.
